Class of 2009 Nethercutt Fellows

Michelle Creek is a sophomore at Whitworth University.  She is currently studying Political Science with a Pre-Law emphasis, and Spanish, with hopes of attending law school upon graduation and becoming an attorney.  Creek was born and raised in Kennewick, Washington, graduating from Kennewick High School in 2007.   In her free time, Michelle enjoys reading good books, discussing politics, and spending time with friends and family.  She is involved in the political activism club at Whitworth University and plays for the Whitworth Wind Symphony.   Michelle has also volunteered with the Tri-Cities Meals on Wheels program and other organizations through her church. 

Rashid Gabdulhkov is a senior international Student at Whitworth University and is currently studying Political Science. Originally from Uzbekistan, he has been living in the US for 5 years.  After graduation, Rashid will do an Optional Practical Training (OPT) in his favorite city - Seattle. He would like to complete a Masters and eventually a Phd in International Relations at the University of Washington. He would like to focus his research and actions on the problems of farmers under oppressive regimes. In his spare time, Rashid loves making ceramics, traveling, playing guitar, and cooking.  

Gillian Goodrich is currently a junior at Whitworth University, where she studies Spanish and International Studies, and is a member of the Cross Country and Track & Field teams. Gillian is fluent in Spanish and graduated with honors from Bozeman High School in Bozeman, Montana, in 2006. Gillian enjoys hiking, backpacking, running and spending time with family and friends. For the past two years, Gillian has served as a YoungLife leader at Mead High School in Spokane, and has worked as a pre-law intern for a Bozeman law firm.

 Shaughnessy Murphy is a second year law student at Gonzaga University School of Law.  He is currently serving as Gonzaga’s American Bar Association Representative and is a member of the Moot Court Honors Council.  Prior to moving to Spokane, Shaughnessy graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a double major in Finance and Economics where he was a three year Scholar-Athlete award winner. Outside of school Shaughnessy works as a Constituent Relations Liaison in Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ district office.

Dustin Massie is a senior at Eastern Washington University, studying International Affairs and Spanish while completing minors in German, French and Government. In 2005, Dustin graduated from Ferndale High School and relocated to Spokane.  He represents the student body as the Academic Affairs Representative for the Associated Students of Eastern Washington University. Dustin has a passion for language studies and has participated in diverse opportunities as an undergraduate both in Argentina and Germany.

Dustin is a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity for which he held an executive position as V.P. of Communications. Together with his fraternity he has planned and volunteered at community service projects benefitting YouthAIDS.  Dustin also serves as a volunteer tutoring German in his spare time. After graduation, Dustin intends to pursue his M.A. in International Relations. Among other hobbies, Dustin enjoys running, swimming, working-out, reading, traveling and learning other cultures.

Jessica Pilgrim is a Junior at Washington State University Spokane.  She is currently majoring in Leadership and Professional studies and plans to continue in the same field for graduate studies at Gonzaga.  Jessica is passionate about leadership and helping others.  Originally from Roy, WA, Jessica moved to Spokane in 2001 after graduating from high school.  Jessica graduated with honors from Spokane Falls Community College.  A wife and mother of two, she balances her time between family, a full-time course load, student clubs and organizations, and volunteering.  Originally from a troubled past herself, Jessica chooses to volunteer her time at an "at risk" teen shelter.

Allison Roehling is a junior at Gonzaga University, studying economics. Allison volunteers as the mentor coordinator with the middle school mentoring program at Gonzaga, is a student in the Comprehensive Leadership Program, and is a member of the National Jesuit Honor Society, Alpha Sigma Nu. In her spare time she enjoys reading, mountain biking, and talking with friends.

 

Tyler Whitney is a sophomore at Whitworth University.  He is currently studying political science and plans to attend law school and possibly obtain a joint MPA/JD.  Tyler is originally from Tri-Cities, WA, and a fourth-generation graduate of Kennewick High School.  Tyler telecommutes from Spokane as a federal contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy in Richland, WA, where he works in state government affairs.  He is also a Resident Assistant in his dorm and is the president of Whitworth's nonpartisan Political Activism Club.
